Stand and Deliver
by The Hunter

Lately I'm beginning to think that a lot of patriots and libertarians have been watching too much Monty Python. "Run Away!" seems to have become the battle cry. From individuals who are wrapped up in plans to escape to a foreign country to "build a refuge" to worthy groups like Gunowners of America counseling against in your face tactics; even the craven "patriotic" Republicans, nobody seems to want to take the bull by the horns. To my mind, they're forgetting everything they ever knew about school yard bullies, a species to which the tyrant wannabes in the federal government bear a quite remarkable resemblance.

Just like the young thug trying to steal your lunch money, running away and attempting to hide from the federal goons is not the answer. Sooner or later they will stretch out their greedy hands and attempt to take and control whatever haven you find (or create), for such is their nature. The American public controls a vast percentage of the world's small arms; two fifths according to the United Nations (though I've seen higher estimates in other sources). The people who own those firearms often have a fairly clear understanding of the concept of freedom, and even if they don't are often open to the concepts. Where, pray tell, are you going to find a situation better for taking a stand?

The Kerry Dilemma
By Norman Turner

Normally a war record some 30 years in the past would not be considered to be of primary relevance in an election for President. One would think that a more recent accounting, such as 30 or so years in Congress, would be of more interest and concern.

John Kerry however, decided to make his heroism during a four-month Vietnam stay the centerpiece of his political presentation during the Democratic Convention. He barely mentioned his record as a Senator. By this choice he has painted himself into a corner.

The book, "Unfit for Command," by John E. O'Neill and a television ad now being run by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a group of his fellow veterans, have presented heavily documented accusations, supported by sworn affidavits, portraying Kerry as a serial liar and a bit of a coward rather than a hero. Anyone But Bush -- And That's What We Got, Anyone
By Ed Henry

With more than 725 military bases spread throughout 70 percent of the world, there is plenty of reason for people to hate us. All you have to do is imagine what it would be like to have Russian or Chinese military bases spread throughout the United States.

We are a military empire that causes more grief by accident than most U.S. citizens realize. Combine that with a system of international banking that squeezes the life blood out of almost every other nation and you've got the makings of everlasting resentment if not pure hatred.

If we really wanted to win the war against terrorism, a tactic of the oppressed, we would pull out of every country where we are not wanted. Bring our boys home and if we can't find them jobs put them to work guarding our borders, a task we do not seem able to manage. Likewise, if we truly believed in democracy, we would let the people of each occupied country vote on whether or not they want us there. But these things will never happen because we are hell bent on building more bases in more countries to protect our "national interests." Long live the military empire.

Police Biker Gangs In Wyoming - Part 2
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

A reader of my article "Police Biker Gangs" thought I was advocating giving state legislators (politicians) a free ride, because of my comment that even state legislators were stopped and harassed at "safety" checkpoints operated by various "law enforcement officials" during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Far from it! I was just reporting a simple fact - a fact that runs contrary to most experience, both in South Dakota and Wyoming (the two states I discussed in the article).

Both states, South Dakota in particular, are well-known for the "preferential treatment" certain motorists (even if they are on bikes) are given by the state patrol and other law enforcement agencies. In South Dakota, for example, records were recently made public that indicate former governor, former congress-crittur, and former jail-bird William Janklow was stopped by twelve different state highway patrolmen sixteen times (don't quote me, as I'm pulling the numbers from a bad memory and may not recall them exactly) during his time in office, without receiving a single citation. It is common for state patrolmen to extend "professional courtesy" to various people: local police and sheriffs officers and possemen, members of the state law enforcement association, and state legislators. Therefore, harassment of a serving state legislator during Rally Week is a newsworthy and unusual event.

The Trouble with Talk Radio
by Christopher Westley

A recent article of mine on a public sector scandal, this one in Milwaukee, brought several e-mails from friends and strangers telling me that it was read and discussed on WTMJ-AM in that city by its weekday morning host, Charles Sykes. WTMJ is Milwaukee’s highest rated talk station, and while I appreciated the plug, I was not sure if that is the sort of station that friends of liberty need to be associated with.

That’s because that station, like so many across the U.S., have adopted the pro-war, pro-Bush nationalist format that dominates AM radio today, robbing it of much of the diversity that once characterized it. It is a marketing model that appeases small government conservatives (who have always favored radio) by telling them that big government really isn’t all that bad—as long as the right guys can control it.

Free Hunter: Collateral Damage
by Carl Bussjaeger

American Independence Day has come and gone, along with the traditional boom and glare of fireworks that bring joy to many kids, young and old.

Picture two such of the younger children: Adorable little girls just six and four years old respectively, Mikayla and Brittany. Imagine their anticipation as the big day approaches and they look forward not only to the beloved fireworks, but also to the arrival of their favorite uncle Jeff, whom they haven't seen in months.

Now picture the adorable little girls' disappointment because a suited goon in Ohio wouldn't let Uncle Jeff come see his family. Yes, Mikayla and Brittany are just two more victims of the Ashland County, Ohio prosecutor's office.

Call them "collateral damage," more innocents caught in the cross-fire as the run-amuck prosecutors pursue their vendetta against Jeffrey "Hunter" Jordan. (Read the rest here)
