Lemonade, Anyone?
By Lady Liberty

If there's one stereotyped profession I dislike nearly as much as I loathe the stereotypical politician, it's used car salesmen. And in the midst of this presidential campaign, do you know what I've been doing? Good guess. I've been shopping for a used vehicle.

It's been years since I've purchased a car. The last one I bought was about 15 years ago, and it's turned out to be a real bargain. It still runs well, gets good gas mileage, and by virtue of some years in Arizona and not so much as a single fender bender, it has no rust and only a minor scratch or two on the body. I even still like it. But despite all that, she's old. In car years, she is, in fact, about... well, dead and already recycled. (Read the rest here)

How Did Kerry Get To Be The Democratic Nominee?
By Carl F. Worden

I am stunned to learn John Kerry has announced that he would have voted to give the president the authority to attack Iraq even if he knew there were no weapons of mass destruction to be found there. That announcement will do nothing less than cause some rabid anti-war Kerry supporters to cast their votes for renegade Ralph Nader, while giving aid and support to his incumbent opponent in the upcoming presidential debates.

Tell me it isn’t so: Is John Kerry as stupid and ill advised as was Howard Dean? It appears he may be, and possibly worse.

It is a fact that as a Massachusetts senator, Kerry voted for the blatantly non-constitutional “resolution” to illegally hand over the exclusive constitutional congressional power to declare war on Iraq to the president back in October of 2002. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The Day's News

Comments on Free Market Daily news items from MamaLiberty.

1- U.S. gov 'unhelpful' in Germany terror retrial
Turkish Press
Is it possible that the testimony of these two could cast an unfavorable light on our own government?

2- Olympics organizers keep out nonsponsors' goods
Chronicle Herald
If this event were strictly a private enterprise, they would have the right to limit admission for any reason they chose, of course. Unfortunately, it is only the subsidy of tax payer's money that makes it possible for them to be so petty.

The Trouble with Talk Radio
by Christopher Westley

A recent article of mine on a public sector scandal, this one in Milwaukee, brought several e-mails from friends and strangers telling me that it was read and discussed on WTMJ-AM in that city by its weekday morning host, Charles Sykes. WTMJ is Milwaukee’s highest rated talk station, and while I appreciated the plug, I was not sure if that is the sort of station that friends of liberty need to be associated with.

That’s because that station, like so many across the U.S., have adopted the pro-war, pro-Bush nationalist format that dominates AM radio today, robbing it of much of the diversity that once characterized it. It is a marketing model that appeases small government conservatives (who have always favored radio) by telling them that big government really isn’t all that bad—as long as the right guys can control it.

Free Hunter: Collateral Damage
by Carl Bussjaeger

American Independence Day has come and gone, along with the traditional boom and glare of fireworks that bring joy to many kids, young and old.

Picture two such of the younger children: Adorable little girls just six and four years old respectively, Mikayla and Brittany. Imagine their anticipation as the big day approaches and they look forward not only to the beloved fireworks, but also to the arrival of their favorite uncle Jeff, whom they haven't seen in months.

Now picture the adorable little girls' disappointment because a suited goon in Ohio wouldn't let Uncle Jeff come see his family. Yes, Mikayla and Brittany are just two more victims of the Ashland County, Ohio prosecutor's office.

Call them "collateral damage," more innocents caught in the cross-fire as the run-amuck prosecutors pursue their vendetta against Jeffrey "Hunter" Jordan. (Read the rest here)
