Good news! Our feedback page is fixed at last. You can see your comments here now. We are sorry, but all old feedback was lost in the process. Whistleblowers and Wasted Words
By Ted Lang © 2004

You can always count on government to rapidly embrace even the slightest suggestion to expand itself, no matter how perfectly useless and unnecessary the gesture. As long as it is thought that such a response will placate the very easily fooled American people, it will be offered, immediately acted upon, and then be further reinforced as a meaningful response by an obedient “free and independent” press.

No sooner has the phony-baloney 9-11 Commission regurgitated the same worse-than-useless moronic recommendations, than the imbeciles responsible for incompetent and incapable government will embrace such recommendations thereby providing a massive expansion of exactly what was in place before, guaranteeing the same failures all over again. And of course, expanded government will cost US more in higher taxes and leave US no better off than before, perhaps even less secure and certainly more vulnerable to continued terrorist attacks.

Satan the Politician
by Bob Wallace

[5] The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. [6] And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours."

[8] Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'"

Luke 4:5-8

Now that's an interesting little story. Satan offers Jesus political power over all the kingdoms of the world, and He refuses. What's offered is something that Satan already has, that's his to give as he pleases. Satan doesn't want political power; he already has it. (Read the rest here)

The Pentagon Learns About the Sixth Amendment
by Jacob G. Hornberger

The Pentagon is learning that things work differently here in the United States than they do in Iraq. In this country, when the judiciary issues an order, the Pentagon is required to obey it. That’s why the government is now permitting Ali Saleh al-Marri to meet with his attorney as part of his habeas corpus proceeding in federal district court in South Carolina.

Al-Marri is one of three "enemy combatants" in the "war on terrorism" whom the Pentagon is holding in its military brig in South Carolina. The other two are Yaser Hamdi and Jose Padilla, whose cases were recently adjudicated in the U.S. Supreme Court. The Pentagon has prohibited al-Marri from consulting with his attorney, much as it did with Hamdi and Padilla and, for that matter, as it is doing with Saddam Hussein in the criminal proceedings that have recently been initiated against him by the U.S.-installed "temporary" regime in Iraq. Libertarian Commentary on The Day's News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

Commentary is on Rational Review News Digest while FMN is on vacation. These comments are as concise and fascinating as possible, even if they tend to be a bit sarcastic, and therefore are those only of the author, and not necessarily of anyone other than my pocket mice, when using the editorial “We.”

1) Iraq: US troops, Iraqis dead in Najaf fighting
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Most people expected this “arrangement” to break down, and if anything, the collapse is not as spectacular as it could have been. But again, as in recent days fighting, the so-called Iraqi “patriotic resistance” seem to be killing more Iraqis and just plain civilians than the hated occupiers and their lackeys. It may be that events like these will cause Iraqi civilians to work more for their own protection rather than trusting to the promises of politicians, whether “secular” or religious.

2) Mosque leaders arrested in alleged missile plot
Seattle Times
This was originally reported as a “shoulder-fired antiaircraft missile,” a far different thing than a grenade launcher, and I wonder which is accurate. Of course, I hardly think an attempt to assassinate a diplomat is truly an act of “terrorism” rather than a simple criminal act. As usually, I’m sure that there is far more to the story.

What Color Is the Wolf Today?
By Ivan Eland

Orange is the color currently in fashion in the nation’s capital and its main financial center. The U.S. government has once again raised the terror alert level from yellow to orange—this time in Washington, D.C. and New York City—based on information obtained from the arrest of a computer engineer in Pakistan several weeks ago. Yet by frequently changing its colors, the government has cried wolf too many times.

New Yorkers and Washingtonians are justifiably skeptical and nonchalant about the heightened warning level. Although urging Americans to “keep shopping” during all prior orange alerts, the government has never told us how to behave differently at various “threat” levels. The rhetoric by Tom Ridge, the nation’s Secretary of Homeland Security, and other anonymous U.S. officials would have us believe that the current threat level is very severe. Yet, they didn’t change the alert system to red, its highest color, probably because people would be too frightened to leave their homes for the shopping mall.

Free "The Hunter"

Free Hunter: Collateral Damage
by Carl Bussjaeger

American Independence Day has come and gone, along with the traditional boom and glare of fireworks that bring joy to many kids, young and old.

Picture two such of the younger children: Adorable little girls just six and four years old respectively, Mikayla and Brittany. Imagine their anticipation as the big day approaches and they look forward not only to the beloved fireworks, but also to the arrival of their favorite uncle Jeff, whom they haven't seen in months.

Now picture the adorable little girls' disappointment because a suited goon in Ohio wouldn't let Uncle Jeff come see his family. Yes, Mikayla and Brittany are just two more victims of the Ashland County, Ohio prosecutor's office.

Call them "collateral damage," more innocents caught in the cross-fire as the run-amuck prosecutors pursue their vendetta against Jeffrey "Hunter" Jordan. (Read the rest here)
