There Is No Terrorist Threat II
By Carl F. Worden

Most of you reading this are already aware of an elevated terrorist alert issued for New York, New Jersey and Washington DC. This alert was reported to you on Sunday, August 1, 2004, because the government knows the best time to notify the general public of “news” is on a Sunday, when all the news shows and discussion groups are most likely to be viewed by the most people at the same time. Pretty smart, eh?

Issuing elevated alert warnings obviously results in heightened security, which translates into additional expense for the areas affected, so issuing such an alert should not be taken lightly, and certainly not for political grandstanding at taxpayer expense. (Read the rest here)

Growing A Police State
one terror alert at a time

By Dorothy Anne Seese

There's a way to grow a police state with full approval of the citizens.  In fact, the people will ask for this protection.

First, create a media barrage about a terrorist threat, or several threats, several locations, and call them "red zones" for high alert.  No one wants a true threat ignored.  However, the people have to rely on the managed media to tell them that the threat is real, that our military intelligence reports have been validated, and that the plans to attack are imminent.  No one can prove a negative.  So if no terrorists attack, it is because our forces, our government, prevented it by huge security measures.

Never mind the fact that no terrorist attack yet has been accurately forecast in advance, at least none that were made available to the general public.  True terrorists attack by surprise, and if they are broadcasting, they're broadcasting in something that calls one building in one location by some code name that isn't going to be recognized until it's hit.  If it's hit. Libertarian Commentary on The Day's News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

The views contained herein are crafted carefully and with great thought and reliance on grace and the wonderful gift of liberty - therefore, of course, readers should take care to practice these things themselves constantly, especially at home and with small children. Even if they don't necessarily reflect ANYONE ELSE's views!

This week, FND is not being published, so I am pestering Mary Lou and Tom once again. I trust they will not treat this as an initiation of force on my part - teasing falls under the threshold, doesn't it?

1) US Marine, Iraqi collaborators killed
Northwest Alabama Times Daily
Despite efforts to show the reconstruction of Iraq is proceeding "normally" (and there is no doubt great strides are being made in some ways), the continued bloodletting - some focused as these were, but much random terror - is not letting up. Until Iraq is able to rid itself of all the evil influences, this will continue.

Thanks George, For $917 Billion In New Debt!
By Ed Henry

On May 23rd of last year, Congress raised the national debt limit $984 billion. They would have made it an even trillion but the oligarchy, our millionaire congressional representatives, didn't want to appear piggish.

That increase put the federal government's silly self imposed debt limit at a new ceiling of $7.384 trillion (7 trillion, 384 billion).

As of July 30th of this year, exactly 14 months later, the national debt stands at $7.317 trillion, $67 billion short of the limit. (Read the rest here)

You Get What You Pay For

Part two of ISIL/FMN's PBS impersonation is coming to you from beautiful Snowmass, Colorado. I'm here, with Louis James, finalizing last-minute details for this year's Eris Society conference. Driving out was an interesting experience, as my car is an old clunker that somehow manages to take all the abuse that gets heaped on it, and just keeps running. And abuse it we did, climbing up the Rocky Mountains fully loaded -- my partner Don Tiggre and myself, a visiting friend from Lithuania, our five children, and the assorted gear necessary for a weeklong trip for all these humans.

I had always scoffed at the idea that premium gasoline and engine- cleaning additives really make a difference -- they certainly didn't seem to for the nice sportscar I once owned and pampered. However, I'm convinced that it was the use of those products that got us all here, not only intact but in good time. Even better, the ol' engine seems to have enough spark left in it to get us home. If you wish to receive a response to your feedback, you must include your email address in the body of the comment section at the bottom of each page. Not all comments can be answered, but if you don't include an email address, we have no way to reach you.

Unfortunately, for some reason unknown to me, the feedback is not being posted to the comments page anymore. I've asked ZooT, our tech editor to look into it, so hopefully it will be fixed soon. Just remember, our "shoestring" is very, very short so we must depend on volunteers for all technical repairs. Thanks for your support and patience. MamaLiberty

What Color Is the Wolf Today?
By Ivan Eland

Orange is the color currently in fashion in the nation’s capital and its main financial center. The U.S. government has once again raised the terror alert level from yellow to orange—this time in Washington, D.C. and New York City—based on information obtained from the arrest of a computer engineer in Pakistan several weeks ago. Yet by frequently changing its colors, the government has cried wolf too many times.

New Yorkers and Washingtonians are justifiably skeptical and nonchalant about the heightened warning level. Although urging Americans to “keep shopping” during all prior orange alerts, the government has never told us how to behave differently at various “threat” levels. The rhetoric by Tom Ridge, the nation’s Secretary of Homeland Security, and other anonymous U.S. officials would have us believe that the current threat level is very severe. Yet, they didn’t change the alert system to red, its highest color, probably because people would be too frightened to leave their homes for the shopping mall.

Free Hunter: Collateral Damage
by Carl Bussjaeger

American Independence Day has come and gone, along with the traditional boom and glare of fireworks that bring joy to many kids, young and old.

Picture two such of the younger children: Adorable little girls just six and four years old respectively, Mikayla and Brittany. Imagine their anticipation as the big day approaches and they look forward not only to the beloved fireworks, but also to the arrival of their favorite uncle Jeff, whom they haven't seen in months.

Now picture the adorable little girls' disappointment because a suited goon in Ohio wouldn't let Uncle Jeff come see his family. Yes, Mikayla and Brittany are just two more victims of the Ashland County, Ohio prosecutor's office.

Call them "collateral damage," more innocents caught in the cross-fire as the run-amuck prosecutors pursue their vendetta against Jeffrey "Hunter" Jordan. (Read the rest here)
