Speech Isn't So Free When I publicly endorsed Libertarian presidential candidate Michael Badnarik last week - the first time I've ever endorsed any candidate - I expected to get some feedback from readers. What I didn't anticipate was the overwhelming tone of those e-mails: gratitude. One writer even thanked me for "having the courage" to say what I thought. While I'm grateful for the notes and the kind words, I was particularly struck by the idea that it should require much courage at all to simply say publicly what I believe to be the truth. In the First Amendment to the Constitution, it is quite specifically stated (in part) that "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech...or the right of the people to peacably assemble." The Bill of Rights were demanded by the people at the time the Constitution was ratified by the states as an additional level of protection against government infringements of such unalienable rights. At the time the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights was written, both the Founders and the people in general were particularly concerned with religious matters and political speech. Many early American colonists had suffered under religious intolerance courtesy of the government "back home," and the Founders themselves risked grave danger speaking out against that government. They fully intended to learn well the lessons history taught and to ensure that their posterity should never suffer a similar fate. (Read the rest here)
The
Tribe and the Outsider So the Mommy-State wants to force all the boys and girls to share and get along. Now that may sorta work with five-year-olds, although not very well, as any parent will attest, but it doesn't work at all with adults, until someone, somehow, comes up with a really cheap operation in which the public's brains are not only washed but dry-cleaned, or else with some kind of soma-like drug that will permanently shrink adults to being kids again. Except, of course, for those in charge of the Mommy-State, who have to keep whatever deluded wits and withered morals they have about them, so they can order all the dopified kids around. Boy, that sure sounds a lot like Brave New World, doesn't it? These days, forcing the boys and girls to "share" and "get along" is called "multiculturalism." It has never worked in the past, anywhere. It doesn't work now, anywhere, and it won't in the future, ever. There are many reasons why it doesn't work, but I think the simplest is what I will call the Tribe and the Outsider. (Read the rest here)

Freedom News
Daily Yes, folks, it's that time again -- time for another round of PBS impersonation at ISIL and Free-Market.Net. We appreciate very much the support so many of you gave us last time, but the facts are that the cost of FMN, and especially Freedom News Daily, are ongoing. Your financial support is required to keep our services going. It's true that money talks. When you buy a good or service, you're expressing your preference for that item over others that you could have chosen. What does your money say about how much you value freedom? With the presidential election cycle in full swing, it's more important than ever that individuals realize there is a genuine choice in government -- the choice to be self-governed and responsible, rather than governed by a bloated bureaucracy that most often treats its subject-citizens as children or milk cows. Please note: All feedback is forwarded to the author. Most of them would be happy to respond. If you wish to receive a response to your feedback, you must include your email address in the body of the comment section at the bottom of each page. Not all comments can be answered, but if you don't include an email address, we have no way to reach you. Unfortunately, for some reason unknown to me, the feedback is not being posted to the comments page anymore. I've asked ZooT, our tech editor to look into it, so hopefully it will be fixed soon. Just remember, our "shoestring" is very, very short so we must depend on volunteers for all technical repairs. Thanks for your support and patience. MamaLiberty

Omits Key PlayerForeign Policy Although the 9/11 commissions investigation has won praise in the media for being bipartisan, on balance it has not made us safer. The commission discovered new information to rewrite the history of the Sept. 11 attacks, uncovered government incompetence that should make Americans wonder if those attacks could have been prevented and made some useful recommendations. But the panel avoided the most important question surrounding the attackstheir underlying cause. (Read the rest here)

Hunter: Collateral Damage American Independence Day has come and gone, along with the traditional boom and glare of fireworks that bring joy to many kids, young and old. Picture two such of the younger children: Adorable little girls just six and four years old respectively, Mikayla and Brittany. Imagine their anticipation as the big day approaches and they look forward not only to the beloved fireworks, but also to the arrival of their favorite uncle Jeff, whom they haven't seen in months. Now picture the adorable little girls' disappointment because a suited goon in Ohio wouldn't let Uncle Jeff come see his family. Yes, Mikayla and Brittany are just two more victims of the Ashland County, Ohio prosecutor's office. Call them "collateral damage," more innocents caught in the cross-fire as the run-amuck prosecutors pursue their vendetta against Jeffrey "Hunter" Jordan. (Read the rest here)
