A letter to the editor:
I don't hear anybody talking about the patient. The patient who gets in trouble because their trusted doctor fails to tell them that there is a law requiring them to tell their doctor if they have received or are receiving pain meds from another doctor or that they have received pain meds within the past 30 days. I still can find little on the internet regarding this.

I was recently approach by a "special agent" telling me that there was a complaint against me (wouldn't not tell me the source) regarding pain meds prescribed to me. I was supposed to tell my GYN doctor that my dentist gave me pain meds two weeks ago, etc. they take my ins. info., they give me a HIPPA form to sign and they never mention the above. I have been seeing all of my doctors (GYN, GP and dentist) regularly and for many years.

The GP wrote me a letter, rather than talking to me first, that he Never thought it was a good idea to prescribe a pain med. What! he never mentioned it to me. NEVER. It was a two sentence letter to cover himself!

I have never broken the law, not even a ticket and now this agent tells me he will call me back, something about a possible grand jury, etc. I am devastated. Before he saw me I had just had an operation to fix one problem and have tried other methods of pain relief (i.e., hypnosis, biofeedback, manipulation of the back and acupuncture. I followed their suggestions, etc. I never took more than I was supposed to, never gave anyone my meds. We are talking about 100 tablets in 40 days and I still have 25. I am not addicted. I took a test to prove this. I don't call in early (only if I am traveling) and don't ask for more. I never asked for these particular meds, the doctor prescribed them. I did not diagnose myself either, the doctor did. I tried other meds before trying the narcotic meds.

I resent being treated like a criminal and kept on hold until he feels like calling me. Because of the stress this has created for me I am now taking an antidepressant! I am a nervous wreck. During my treatment there was always the goal of finding a way without the meds and two of the doctors worked with me on this. I think doctors (oh! the agent made a remark about the "poor doctors"!) should inform their patient's during the 5 minutes that they spend with them about this situation. This one doctor who said it was never a good idea used to keep me waiting in a room for 20 minutes and spend 3-5 minutes with me, talking as he walked backward to the door to leave.

When this is over and done with I am going to write him a letter! How can I trust a doctor that bails on me in a heartbeat, prescribing something he tells me now he never thought was a good idea. What!

My point? More information for the patient. There are people who get drugs for conditions they make up, people who go to a doctor once for a prescription, etc. I am not one of these people. I have real problems and now I will have to deal with them myself as alternative treatments not covered by insurance. I just plunked down 2,000 for hypnoses!
Let's face it, the patient in today's world is at the bottom of the ladder. Five years ago I started to get regular exams, tests, etc. before that I hadn't been to the doctor in 13 years. Now I will go back to none.

FYI, their nurses knew I was taking another prescription but that doesn't count. Why?

Not everyone is a drug abuser. I am a housewife, mother and work at home. I need this like a hole in the head.

This letter from a reader tells two stories. One is fairly obvious, of course, since we can all relate to her sense of betrayal and outrage over this. The other story is much harder for most people to see, but it is so very simple. Who gave the government the authority and the power to be involved between this woman and her doctor? What business is it of anyone else what she takes, why she takes it, or where she gets it? Yet this "authority" is taken as a given by most people, including the victims of this insanity. She feels she must protest her innocence, rather than demanding to know how the hell it is any of their business. How sad.

Many such victims see nothing wrong with government prosecution of those deemed "abusers", etc. Anybody but them is ok. Nothing is going to change until we all realize that we are in the same small boat, with the same rights as everyone else. If we allow anyone else's nonviolent, non-aggressive behavior to be labeled and punished as "criminal", there is nothing to prevent our own behavior from being so labeled next.

Supposedly, the only things that the Federal government has anything to do with are those FEW items spelled out in the Constitution. The various state Constitutions were written with similar limitations and narrow purpose. If you have not read the US Constitution, I urge you to do so, since you won't know or understand this premise otherwise. I also urge you to read carefully the Constitution of the state in which you live. There should be nothing in any of them that grants the state or federal government any authority or control over what you eat, drink, smoke, take as medicine or anything else regarding your personal life and home.

The only proper purpose (if it has one at all) of Federal government is to coordinate the efforts and interests of the various independent states in their relationships with each other and with foreign countries. PERIOD That is what the Constitution says. Unfortunately, there are no provisions for TEETH in the restrictions, so they have been ignored and written out of it over the many years. Gradually the people were conditioned (brainwashed by government schools) to believe that the government could do pretty much whatever it wanted. And so it has come to pass.

The only proper purpose (if it has one at all) of local government is to punish those who harm others, acts of aggression and theft/fraud. The ancient "rule of law" gives them a well tested and useful framework to take care of this. Unfortunately, the states are no longer independent, now totally subject to the feds, while the citizens have become "subjects" rather than the sovereign individuals God intended us to be.

How did we get here? How do we turn things around and regain our independence and sovereignty? First we have to understand the proper function of voluntary associations - the only truly legitimate "government" - find out what happened to sidetrack that in our history, and most important, how to keep it from happening again once we wipe the cancer of our present socialist superstate from our lives.

Unless we do, one day there will be nobody left who remembers the way it should be. If the writings of the great thinkers of our age are lost, the work of Paine, Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Locke, Lysander Spooner, and so many others, then we will enter another dark age that may continue until the next time a spark sets off a quest for liberty. It lives in the hearts of some of us. Let's not let it die.
