Mapping George Bush's Head
by Bob Wallace

I'm convinced George Bush is a dry drunk. That term, "dry drunk," is one commonly used by Alcoholics Anonymous to refer to someone who has quit drinking but still has the thought processes of an alcoholic. These thought processes are called "stinking thinking."

For the record, this isn't just an academic exercise with me. I've known, intimately, people who were drunks for 20 years, and after drying out with the help of AA, were still not right. Twenty years of heavy drinking often changes the brain permanently. I think it has in Bush's case, not only because he reminds me of the dry drunks I know, but because he also fits every characteristic of "stinking thinking." (Read the rest here)

Take Government Healthcare, Die Young
By Dorothy Anne Seese

The most inefficient organization in the United States has been pinpointed for decades now as the federal government itself. Why anyone would want a screwed up mess like the federal (or even the state) government to take over personal healthcare, which concerns your life now and for your duration on this earth, is a mystery beyond solving. All the private eyes, public eyes, detectives on and off television, the CIA and the FBI combined, and Homeland Security could not come up with one good reason why people at large believe the government, which can't communicate with itself or the people, should have control of the health of the citizens of the United States.

No wonder Bush thinks the citizens need mental tests. I thought he was being fascist, but perhaps he is merely being realistic. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on Freedom News Daily
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

This commentary is the personal opinion of the writer, and does not necessarily reflect the views of FND, FMN, TPoL, and generally is anathema to CBS, NBC, ABC, PRI, UPI, PBS, CBC, and probably NTV and MTV both. Read more of these news articles by going to: http://free-market.net/news/

1- White House reporter: 'This government lies'
Sorry, but this is news? "Dog bites man" is NOT news - but then, the professionalism of USA journalists is at an all-time low.

2- Drug company offers discounts to U.S. uninsured
A good public relations stunt, indeed. It really is too bad we can't have a free market for both medicine and medical care. I'm sure this will be followed by demands for still lower prices for the HMOs. And of course "wholesale" is like "dealer price" for cars - really meaningless.

How Hitler Became a Dictator
by Jacob G. Hornberger
The Future of Freedom Foundation

How many people know how Adolf Hitler actually became a dictator? My bet is, very few. The story is set forth in detail in William Shirer’s book The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, on which this article is based.

A few weeks after he was appointed chancellor of Germany by President von Hindenberg in January 1933, Hitler was enjoying supper at the home of his friend Joseph Goebbels, when the telephone rang with an emergency message: “The Reichstag is on fire!” Hitler and Goebbels rushed to the fire, where they found Hermann Goering shouting at the top of his lungs, “This is the beginning of the Communist revolution! We must not wait a minute. We will show no mercy. Every Communist official must be shot, where he is found. Every Communist deputy must this very day be strung up.” (Read the rest here)

The American Revolution and Iraq
By William Marina*

As Americans mark the 228th anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence this Fourth of July, two parallels between our Revolution and today’s insurgency in Iraq come to mind. One, based in myth, would lead its advocates to folly, while the other deserves serious consideration.

The mythical parallel, drawn by intellectuals as diverse as Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg and Iraq war-hawk, neo-conservative godfather Irving Kristol is what might be called “The Minority Myth.” Cited in numerous books about the Revolution is a letter written by founding father John Adams which seems to indicate that only one third of the American colonists were for the Revolution, another third were against it, and a final third were neutral or indifferent to the whole affair. The letter has been brought into favor by certain parties hoping Iraq turns to democracy, for, if true, this claim would suggest that the current lack of consensus on democracy in Iraq does not foretell defeat of the efforts to impose it there.
