It's reminder time again.

As Hunter's trial date comes ever closer, it likewise becomes ever more important to rachet up the pressure in Ohio. Every day that comes with charges still lodged against Hunter should bring a geometrically increasing quantity of letters to the prosecutor and local newspaper editors in support of our friend and RKBA.

Letters to the prosecutor
Remain polite, as always, but since Mr. DeSanto has not seen fit to move to dismiss, be more insistent.. Stress the ridiculousness of the charge (carrying with a license). Point out that even before Hunter was indicted, Ohio itself formally accepted concealed carry. Question the wisdom of taking the case to a jury. Wonder if the money wasted is worth it to salve the pride of the Highway Patrol trooper who violated the rights of a man who was minding his own business. Ask if there aren't criminals he could be after.

Send letters to:

Robert P. DeSanto
307 Orange Street
Ashland, OH 44805
prosecutor@ashlandcounty.org

Letters to the Editor
The Mansfield News Journal appears to be an excellent venue for letters regarding the Ashland County prosecutor's office (it has published letters critical of Hunter's case and at least one other, mentioning DeSanto by name). I recommend emphasizing the Hunter's innocence, wasted tax dollars, misapplication of resources that could be used to fight crime, and the damage to the community reputation done by the prosecutor's office. Mentioning Mr, DeSanto and his successor Ms. Rodgers, by name is advisable.

Letters to the Editor should go to:

Mansfield News-Journal
Carl Hunnell, Managing Editor
70 West Fourth Street
Mansfield, OH 44902
(419) 521-7204
chunnell@gannett.com

It may be helpful to send letters to Russ Kent, a News Journal reporter who has covered this story before, asking him to continue the public service of reporting the story:

rkent@nncogannett.com
Or use the above postal address.
Letters to the Judge
I think our efforts are best directed to the people of Ashland County (LtE) and the prosecutor's office. If you do wish to write Judge Runyan, continue the previous polite theme of "is trying Hunter truly justice?."

Timing
If these letters are to help Hunter's case, they must be read as soon as possible. Write now; don't wait till the trial starts; it would be largely too late by then. We want Ohio to realize there shouldn't be a trial. I suggest you send emails immediately (i.e.- right now), and follow up with paper letters mailed tomorrow morning.

And continue sending letters. There are three weeks until the trial (May 27, 2004); you should send fresh letters everyone one of those weeks.

If your fingers haven't given out yet, and you haven't done so already, consider joining in with everyone else having a little fun with reciprocity at Ohio's expense.

Thanks for your help

Doing Freedom

A Knight of Non-Aggression is a person committed to fighting institutionalized aggression, who has taken the following oath:

"I swear, by my life and my love of It, to fight against all forms of tyranny. I recognize that the enabling idea that underlies and sustains tyranny is the idea that the socially organized and institutionalized initiation of the use of force against non-consenting and unwilling people can be justified, is desirable, and must be given sanction in order to avoid chaos. I further recognize that no lasting liberty can be achieved until the falsehood of this idea is widely known and pledge my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor to exposing this falsehood.

"To this battle I will turn my creative energy, I will give my time and I will devote my very being, while never allowing my self, my efforts or my cause to become the aggressor, never conceding the premise of the enemy by becoming the enemy."
