19, 2004 And in 2001, it had been reported that the FBI lost some of its firearms. No big deal – 449 weapons were “lost,” including handguns, rifles, shotguns and sub machine-guns. Now even though the FBI uses standard government accounting, probably a nebulous, trackless contractor-installed system no one can figure out and tantamount in effect to no accounting at all, its ramshackle complexity was able to determine that of the 449 firearms missing, 265 firearms were lost and 184 were stolen. Stolen? Isn’t the FBI the premier federal police agency of the most powerful nation on Earth, and yet common thieves stole their guns? The astonishing revelations from Sibel Edmonds that FBI Director Robert Mueller had agents threaten her for the crime of exposing FBI malfeasance, fraud, breach of security as well as criminal intimidation, is compounded by Attorney General John Ashcroft’s complicity in the crime of senatorial witness tampering, and exposes even further the entire malevolent operation of the Department of Justice. And when one considers the crimes of the FBI and the Attorney General of the United States, is it really wise for Americans to continue to snooze thinking they are safe with powerful criminal agencies like these in our government? The FBI’s failings have been recognized as far back as 1987, and even prior. False evidence and political expediency have sent known-to-be innocent people to prison for virtual life sentences to protect criminal informants relative to “more important” cases and convictions. An Etherzone.com article by veteran journalist Phil Brennan in his piece, “The Federal Bureau of Investigation – A Legendary Department in Rotten Decay,” posted May 23, 2001, documents the decline of the “bureau” recognized three full years ago. And Brennan noted and documented this decline four months before 9-11. Brennan offers, “[I]n the wake of the revelations about their activities in the Oklahoma bombing case they have been shown to be a dangerously unreliable government agency which has abused its enormous power in ways that boggle the imagination. Until now, they have gotten away with a series of outrageous betrayals of trust that would have done in any organization not blessed with their reputation as the nation’s premier law enforcement agency.” It is telling that Brennan felt at the time he wrote this that a turning point had been reached as regards the new lows achieved by the FBI. It is obvious that he felt an action point had been reached where something had to be done to rein in this dangerously out-of-control agency. He goes on: “Any other government agency involved in the outrages at Waco or Ruby Ridge would have gone down in flames but the Bureau survived, even to the point where two of their most egregious betrayals of trust were accepted by the media and the Congress without question after those disasters.” It is becoming increasingly obvious, that anything involving the FBI should be viewed at the highest level of distrust. “Without the seeming immunity granted them by virtue of long-past successes, they would have lost most of their credibility by the time of the TWA 800 disaster and the mysterious death of Vincent Foster, and their activities in both these matters would have been subjected to the most rigorous scrutiny,” offers Brennan. In his article back then, Brennan’s remarks concerning flight TWA 800 now come disturbingly to the fore considering the on-going fiasco of the 9-11 Whitewash Commission: “Let's begin with the matter of the downing of TWA 800. Despite the fact that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) had the authority and responsibility to assume the role of lead investigative body in the matter, the FBI barged in on the scene and took full control. Here's how the New York Times described relations between the FBI and the NTSB, on August 23, 1996: The most senior officials with the NTSB were ‘furious with their own personnel at the scene, convinced that the agency had ceded control of the inquiry to the FBI.’ One NTSB investigator complained that ‘overbearing’ FBI agents ‘immediately took control, and hampered a lot of things we did.’ NTSB officials portrayed the FBI as ‘aggressive beyond propriety’ and described an atmosphere of suspicion and distrust, believing that the FBI routinely withheld crucial information. This failure to share information was particularly focused on the FBI laboratory in Washington, which was characterized as a ‘black hole.’ Clearly the Bureau was in charge and determined to make the probe come out the way they wanted [emphasis added]. And one of the things they wanted was to prevent the hundreds of eyewitness accounts of the disaster that all but proved that TWA 800 was downed by a missile from being admitted in evidence despite the fact that the testimony they wanted to suppress came from highly credible individuals [emphasis added]. The NTSB scheduled Public Hearings into the crash in Baltimore for December 8, 1997. Among the items slated for discussion were these eyewitness accounts. However, just days before the hearing the FBI pressured the NTSB to exclude those highly credible eyewitness reports and ban their live testimony from the hearings.” In another of a long series of articles written by Brennan, he cites an account of the TWA 800 witness tampering by the FBI stating that, “Veteran naval aviator and crash investigator Comdr. William Donaldson said he had witnesses who heard George Gabrial, the senior FBI agent on Long Island and personal friend of [Assistant NY FBI Director, James] Kallstrom, and who was a close witness of the downing of TWA 800 when on his boat, that he believed what he had observed was a missile.” Brennan continues, “The bureau fought tooth and nail to cover up the fact that testimony given by hundreds of eyewitnesses all but proved that TWA 800 was downed by a missile. And many witnesses said FBI agents badgered them to change their testimony.” Brennan also states that according to another source, “…Kallstrom told a high-ranking New York State official that the FBI would not find that a missile shot down the plane because the American people couldn’t handle it.” It is the opinion of this writer, given the track record of both the FBI and the current secret administration, that TWA Flight 800 was brought down by an al Qaeda or other terrorist group’s Stinger missile, originally made available to the Afghanis by the United States during the former’s conflict with the Soviet Union. Additionally, all indications are that American Airlines Flight 587, that crashed in Far Rockaway, Queens, in New York City, was similarly brought down after hydraulic lines were cut, causing the plane to “flat spin” to the ground. Live coverage by two different TV news networks, when interviewing two different eyewitnesses, became strangely garbled, as if electronic interference were coordinated with the live broadcast of the accounts given by the two eyewitnesses. Their eyewitness accounts were lost, and never offered up again or repeated. Additionally, testimony by both a retired New York City police officer and firefighter was stifled, and the witnesses and their accounts disappeared from the scene. Just as they are now doing with the 9-11 Commission, the FBI is leading the way in stifling and suppressing evidence, blocking the testimony of witnesses, intimidating and smearing witnesses, and serving as the administrations’ personal bodyguards and damage control agency. In short, what we have is a politicized secret police! Reading through Shirer’s Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, many examples of such secretive maneuvers by Nazis Herbert Himmler and Joseph Goebbels parallel the operations and manufactured news events [propaganda] of the Bush administration and its secret police. In an article in USA Today entitled “Missiles seen as a growing menace to airliners,” posted on their website January 15, 2003, reporter Tom Squitieri writes, “U.S. officials are increasingly worried that terrorists will use shoulder-fired, heat-seeking missiles to shoot down one or more U.S. airliners. The concern comes in part because such attacks would be so devastating, but also because intelligence information suggests terrorists are making those attacks a priority. Intelligence officials and terrorism experts say intercepted communications and the interrogation of captured terrorists indicate that airliner attacks are among the ‘high-value’ attacks under active consideration by al-Qaeda and its successor groups.” In other words, the Stinger missile weapons systems given to Afghanistan during their conflict with the Soviet Union, remained available as surplus after that war, and became, therefore, available to al Qaeda. Considering the vulnerability of US aircraft to this threat created and put into the terrorist equation by none other than the US Government, what efforts are now being undertaken to re-open the TWA 800 inquiry in light of all the evidence and information cover-ups on the part of the FBI? And by the way, where are the ten missing pages to the declassified August 6, 2001 Presidential Daily Briefing [PDB] President George Bush released to the American public? Consider this statement by former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger during an exchange in a session of the 9-11 Commission proceedings: BERGER: “We thought TWA 800 was terrorism. It was not terrorism. People actually -- dozens of people saw the missile strike TWA 800 as it went up over Long Island.” But the evidence mounts, and experts are increasingly coming forward, and are stating that TWA 800 was a terrorist act. How does still keeping this a secret serve the American people, even now? Reflecting on Kallstrom’s comment to the “high-ranking New York State official,” that keeping this a secret from the American people “because they couldn’t handle it,” hasn’t that really set US up for the terrorism that followed on 9-11? It took the pressure off both the FBI and the government, and the loss of 230 lives was followed by the loss of 3,000 more lives on 9-11. Berger’s flat out disclaimer also doesn’t square what now ABC commentator George Stephanopoulos said to ABCNews anchor Peter Jennings in what was obviously a slip when he referred to TWA 800 as having been “bombed.” The four New Jersey mom’s that came to the 9-11 Commission hearings were hoping that the Commission would do the right and honorable thing by striving to get at the truth, but Attorney General John Ashcroft, one of the FBI co-conspirators blocking witness testimony and suppressing evidence, was let off the hook by the bi-partisan partisans looking to protect big government from any semblance of real accountability. Ashcroft was never challenged concerning his criminal activities directed against Sibel Edmonds and other translators and witnesses that had the courage to come forward. Instead, Ashcroft pounced on the opportunity to attack the former administration and former Deputy Attorney General and now 9-11 Commissioner Jamie Gorelick and her internal memo calling for stricter enforcement of the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA. The allusion here was to the fact that FBI field agent Coleen Crowley was trying to access Zacharias Moussauoi’s computer to search for e-mails or other records, which would indeed have, in all likelihood, been a major factor in preventing the 9-11 terrorist acts. But that assumes the FBI would have acted! Isn’t it ironic, that Ashcroft accuses Gorelick of being too strict on the activities of the FBI via FISA, when that law was created precisely to rein in the type of secret police activities and goon squad intimidation that Ashcroft and Mueller just engaged in? Haven’t they both demonstrated the obvious need for a stricter interpretation of FISA? And now, with Ashcroft and the Bush regime’s USA Patriot Act I and II, we are all going to be safer? Theodore
