Freedom, the Future, and YOU
By Don "Lobo" Tiggre

Free will is a fact of human nature. No matter how many people submit to the will of others, no matter how pervasive the institutions of coercion, no such evil is possible without the capitulation of the victims. Such capitulation too is an act of will, no matter how fervently we might wish that it was someone else’s responsibility.

Even when the gun is pressed against your temple and the thug says, “lick my boot or I will kill you,” it is we who must choose to do the boot-licking.

In saying this, I was once challenged on whether the people in the former Soviet Union were free. I answered that they were, and had only to realize it in order to throw off their oppressors. Well, they did and they did.

Choosing to lick the boot, contrary to what the tyrant would have you believe, does not make you an accomplice or accessory to the crime; you are the victim, no more and no less. Victimhood should certainly not be exalted in the way our culture attempts to do at times, but neither should it be a source of shame--unless the victim chooses to lick the boot when there is a better choice available. The 16th Amendment is not the Source of the Federal Income Tax
By Robert Greenslade

It’s April 15th and time for opponents of the federal income tax to renew their claim that the tax is unconstitutional because the Sixteenth Amendment was not properly ratified. These individuals are operating on the erroneous belief that the Sixteenth Amendment is the source of the federal government’s power to impose income taxes. The purpose of this article is show that the Sixteenth Amendment did not grant the federal government any new taxing power.

In order to understand this issue, it is important to review the taxing clauses of the Constitution and the events that led to the adoption of the Sixteenth Amendment. The Constitution divides all taxes into two classes: direct and indirect. Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 grants the federal government its power to impose taxes:

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States. (Read the rest here.)

More Than a Failing
By Ted Lang © 2004

Isn’t it astonishing how everything that has critical relevance to the most serious threats to our precious freedom is now clouded in the newspeak of “intelligence failures,” or “structural and legal impediments,” or Cool Hand Luke-style “failures to communicate,” or “failures to coordinate,” and the like? Why not throw in “inadequate funding” as well? All are deliberate and calculated creative obstacles of wordsmith newspeak to prime the obeisant, subservient, American corporate media to assist in the Bush administration’s propaganda drive to mislead the dumbed-down, unwashed masses and street rabble.

The Bush administration figured they simply had to allow the creation of the National Commission on Terrorist Activities Upon the United States, the 9-11 Commission, to stave off the agitation from the “four moms” from New Jersey, as Gail Sheehy of the New York Observer refers to them. These are the liberal enemies of our state Rush Limbaugh referred to, pointing out that they are only raising hell because they hate President George W. Bush because of all his wealth and freedom. They have become “politicized” Limbaugh and other Bush sycophants offer, and don’t really care that their husbands were killed on 9-11. Limbaugh sees them only as “libs” trying to disparage his Fuehrer, Der Schmirkmeister. (Read the rest here.)
