Is Anybody
Listening? I write and call my Congressional Representative and Senators quite regularly. Taking this kind of action, while often apparently futile, in reality does do some good. If politicians on both sides of the aisle have something in common, it is their shared desire to be elected again and again. And so as a sort of sop to their constituents, politicians do from time to time actually listen to voters. I write and call again and again in the hopes of hitting that golden "time to time" window. So as to maximize my chances of doing any good, I've carefully considered my approach. When I write, I keep my messages brief and to the point. When I call, I have notes in front of me so that I am ready to state the facts and give my position on the issue. In either case, I am respectful (not necessarily because a given politician deserves respect, mind you, but because a little respect goes a long way in keeping the party on the other end of the communication listening). Tribal Wisdom
vs Government The tribal wisdom of the Lakota (Sioux) Indians, passed on from generation to generation, says that, "When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount." However, in government (especially in dealing with sewage in a certain National Park in the Southern Paha Sapa (Black Hills), education, and in corporate America, more advanced strategies are often employed, such as: (Read the rest here)
Bushroom
- Fungus Humongous Growing mushrooms has been likened to lying and/or deliberately misinforming: keep em in the dark and feed em [the s word]. But this methodology is normally directed by one or a small number towards the many to cultivate and reap ignorance amongst the masses. A perfect example of this is the 9-11 Commission. It has only one purpose: to justify the creation of a domestic Gestapo to carry out the USA Patriot Act I/II abolition of the American peoples Bill of Rights. The Bush administration put these laws in place, and just as General Tommy Franks warned, the administration will now ensure the Sharon-style terrorism necessary to invoke them. (Read the rest here.)
Who's
Body Is It Anyway? The phony "Patient Bill of Rights" and new "HIPPA" regulations gives me a perfect reason to write this section. Packed with the loads of expected lies and land mines, it is another step toward total socialized medicine in this country. This has the potential to destroy health insurance completely or drive up the price of what might survive until no employers will be able to offer it. Once that happens, our dear nanny state will tisk-tisk and benevolently take over the whole shebang while saying, "...see, the 'free market' doesn't work." Sometimes, with all the discussion of the Constitution and the Amendments, I think we lose sight of the greater picture. It's been said before, but nowhere is this more true than with our health. Each person OWNS their body. Each person must be ultimately responsible for what they do to it and the decisions they make that affect their body and health. All of those who suffer with chronic and debilitating disease, in spite of massive and vastly expensive health care, one way or another testify to this ultimate situation. If you don't take care of your own body, in the long run nobody else can. (Read the rest here.)
