The Strange Case Of Casey Nethercott
By Carl F. Worden

In what may be the first documented case of a non-terrorist, American citizen being held without charges under terms of the so-called “Patriot Act”, Arizona rancher Casey Nethercott was arrested March 1, 2004 by exclusive and arbitrary order of Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano.

Using a “Governor’s Warrant” to hold Nethercott without charges in the Pima County Jail located in Tucson, Arizona, Nethercott was released to the State of Texas on March 22, 2004. According to the records clerk of the Pima County Jail, no one knows where in Texas Nethercott was taken. In fact, she informed me that Nethercott would have to call someone to let him or her know where he is being held. That is, of course, only if Nethercott is allowed to make a telephone call. A Matter of Survival
Morality Cannot Be Delegated!
By Ted Lang © 2004

The military’s chain of command communicates war-fighting tactics at the command level down to the soldiers on the battlefield in order to successfully execute the force’s overall strategy. Tactical direction is communicated from generals and admirals down to the “grunt” level, as Colonel David Hackworth might say.

Generals and admirals frequently confer with politicians and presidents to develop strategy that is in line with government policy. It matters not whether such government policy is flawed, either by “bad intelligence” or the treasonous intent of elected and/or un-elected leaders who are either bribed or convinced that the involvement of our military to serve the political interests of another nation is or is not justified. The risks our military must face during a time of war dictates that they should be called upon only as a last resort, and then only for political advantages that serve our own people. Personal Meanings of Liberty
© by Richard Rieben

Each person has their own idea of the composition of liberty – what it means to them personally, as well as how they think that should be effected in regard to their relations with others in a social or political venue.

The subjective base, arising from personal experience, knowledge and understanding, and varying from person to person, does not mean that people should allow themselves to be murky or vague in their understanding, nor bend with whatever breeze happens to be blowing. Nor be unwilling to share their view with others, both clearly and confidently.

Henry David Thoreau wrote: “Let every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining it.” And, being chronically out of step with his fellows, Thoreau struggled to express his views on what kind of government would command his respect throughout his life.

This does not mean that every man or woman will have the same vision, nor the same definition. It does not mean that every person will, by the effort of expressing their vision, get their own way in the end result. (Read the rest here)
