Those of you who've been following the ongoing saga of Jeff Jordan's arrest (Free the Hunter) and concealed carry case on the Liberty Round Table "Free the Hunter" site, email lists and blogs know by now that the Hunter was arraigned on Feb.2, his speeding ticket trial will be feb. 19 and his concealed carry trial will be on May 27,2004. (For a detailed timeline, from his arrest on December 29,2003, see Timeline.)

Activists throughout the world have rallied to help publicize the situation, raise funds for Hunter's legal defense, and provide ongoing moral support (so important when one of "our people" is in the clutches of the state.) There are two schools of thought on how to react when confronted by the "omnipotent cult of the state": roll out your best "slave behavior" and "yassa the massa", hoping for leniency, or, stand up and fight back. Hunter has chosen to fight back, and we, his fellow freedom fighters, should do whatever we can to stand by him, to continue to publicize his case, and rally support.

We have a little over 3 months to rally support to attend his trial, to flood the state of Ohio with information to educate the public about not only Hunter's case, but the citizens of Ohio's inalienable right to practice "jury nullification", and, to bring whatever pressure we can to bear on the representatives of the "state" ... the prosecutors and judges who will try the case.

Carl Bussjaeger's article "A practical call for letters" outlines how to write effective letters to help Hunter's cause; to the prosecutor (who is rumored to be a lifetime NRA member) and Judge, letters that will point out legal arguments such as, since the state of Ohio recognized the Hunter's New Hampshire drivers license, why won't it recognize his New Hampshire firearms license, in a polite, well informed fashion. And, of course, as Carl suggests, cc's to the local newspapers (and the New Hampshire paper which has been covering the case) won't hurt either. Or LTEs to these papers, outlining the same polite well reasoned arguments.

If ever a case called for education on jury nullification, this is the one. Don Doig, co-founder of FIJA (Fully Informed Jury Association) wrote an excellent LTE on this subject "Concealed handgun defendant depends upon protections afforded by jurors",which has been posted at PriceofLiberty.org (Inalienable Right? Or State Granted Privilege?) which you can use as a model. FIJA also has sample LTEs and other information at their website. (Idea ... if you live near Ohio, some judicious leafleting using FIJA leaflets would be in order. Seed the community with leaflets, put them in convenience stores, laundromats, libraries, etc.)

And how is the Hunter holding up? Well, those on the LRT-DISCUSS list can attedt that his wit and spirit appear undiminshed ... but a recent article "Some Questions for Verizon" reveals that things may not be going well on the "home front". ... "One of the things I've noticed is that Mr. Jordan hasn't been going to work since he returned from Ohio. From years of association with the man, I know he's a long-time employee of Verizon (in its various iterations over the years. And with expensive legal actions in the works, it strikes me as odd that he would voluntarily cut off his income by simply neglecting to go to work. I've asked, and he just tells me there's nothing he's free to speak of regarding Verizon, just like the legal proceedings."

The article goes on to suggest that we spread the word to contact Verizon and ask what exactly is going on here ... has the Hunter been suspended/fired and, if so, why; and further suggests that if no answers are forthcoming, an "immediate boycott of Verizon" might be appropriate. (For contact info on Verizon, see Verizon Board of Directors.)

For this week's action, then, let's continue publicizing Hunter's case and start rallying support. If anyone has additional ideas, please let me know, I'll be delighted to pass them on!

One final note ... yes, this is "just one case". But this is one of "our own" who has fallen afoul of the "omnipotent state", and has chosen to fight back. The more publicity we can get, the more pressure we can bring to bear on the minions of the state to "free Hunter", the more we can educate the "sheeple" about what CAN happen in the "land of the free", the more likely it is that the NEXT time some overzealous LEO pulls over an out of state motorist for speeding and decides to "make an example" of him for daring to travel armed in this great country, he may, just may, pause to reconsider.

Til next week

A Knight of Non-Aggression is a person committed to fighting institutionalized aggression, who has taken the following oath:

"I swear, by my life and my love of It, to fight against all forms of tyranny. I recognize that the enabling idea that underlies and sustains tyranny is the idea that the socially organized and institutionalized initiation of the use of force against non-consenting and unwilling people can be justified, is desirable, and must be given sanction in order to avoid chaos. I further recognize that no lasting liberty can be achieved until the falsehood of this idea is widely known and pledge my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor to exposing this falsehood.

"To this battle I will turn my creative energy, I will give my time and I will devote my very being, while never allowing my self, my efforts or my cause to become the aggressor, never conceding the premise of the enemy by becoming the enemy."
