Secondhand Politics
By Catfarmer

There’s something supremely unhealthy about lust for power. It’s not a natural urge for most people; more like an acquired vice. Politics gives the habit of butting into other people’s business an aura of respectability, although I’ve never understood the reasons. Smokers are hounded relentlessly for just smoking; bureaucrats get away with sticking all sorts of distasteful stuff in other people’s craws, and polluting the atmosphere with all kinds of damaging rhetoric. So what about the harmful effects of secondhand politics? They foul our airwaves, and our minds, our schools, our hospitals, our communities, our libraries, our newspapers: even our marriages. More of us need to complain about that.

Our prisons are already full of people who are suffering from other people’s politics. How many more prisons shall we build, and for whom, I wonder? Maybe they won’t all be called prisons; they may be dubbed ‘containment centers,’ ‘evaluation facilities,’ or ‘quarantine camps.’ What new class of criminal will the next wave of political reforms create? What legal behavior will next be classified as criminal for the sake of public health or national security? Whose standards will decide what is crime, and what defines freedom? It’s absurd to make such a stink about secondhand smoke and ignore the more deadly, offensive, and ubiquitous effects of secondhand politics. (Read the rest here)

There Is No Terrorist Threat
By Carl F. Worden

Following the coordinated attacks orchestrated on 9/11/2001, in which passenger aircraft were hijacked by a small group of Muslim extremists to destroy the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, and to damage the Pentagon, there have been no significant terrorist attacks that have occurred in the entire United States since that time.

There have been no bombings of American nightclubs, movie theaters, grocery stores or shopping malls. There have been no assaults by gunmen on those attending NFL football games or any other sports events. There have been no significant attacks on any American citizens in any public or private sector since 9/11/2001.

In the meantime, both the northern and southern borders of the United States have remained largely undermanned and unguarded by the United States Government, allowing anyone to enter, smuggling anything from drugs to Russian-made SA-7 portable anti-aircraft missiles, to any other munitions domestic terrorists might want to obtain and use. The Evidence Mounts. Another Bush Defector!
By Ted Lang © 2004

The lies, fraud and misrepresentations on the part of the Bush administration in usurping presidential authority, supported by Congress’ “war powers” carte blanche authority allowing President George W. Bush to declare war on any nation of his choosing for any reason, is beginning to come home to roost!

On the heels of the revelations made public by Bush’s former Secretary of the Treasury, Paul O’Neill, confirming the activities of the Project for the New American Century, or PNAC, this secret cabal of Bush advisors that no one in America voted for has been exposed as a reality. And of course, the Bush apologists on talk radio and at FOXNews have hastened to damage control mode, as has the Bush administration, and have denigrated O’Neill and his statements as merely those of a former disgruntled employee who had been fired. The Bushies and the Foxes offer that O’Neill just wanted to get even, and that he was incompetent, and that the unjustified invasion of Iraq was just an extension of the original intention of the Clinton administration. Therefore, case closed! (Read the rest here)

Activist Announcement

I have confirmed with the legal team that the next court date -February 2, 2004- is open to the public. So spread the word throughout the land. I'll be wearing a suit and tie, and if I can remember how will even comb my hair. So the spectator value will be pretty high even ignoring the legal niceties.

The appearance is at Ashland County Common Pleas court, which I believe is at 142 W 2nd Street, Ashland Ohio. The proceedings start at 11:30 AM. I shall leave it to the local activists to arrange the details of where and when they will gather. I will be arriving with the lawyers, and probably tied up with them for at least a little while before that to boot. I suspect I will be told it would be inadvisable to say anything; you know the drill. I would appreciate as big a show of support as we can manage, but remember that we MUST appear polite, respectable, and businesslike.

Feel free to forward this notice far and wide, and should the local activists have questions that they can't get answered on the LRT web page, feel free to email me at this address.
