The Constitution
Is Not The Answer For those who truly cherish liberty, it is reality check time. If nothing else, our history should have taught us that regardless of how much we yearn for the adherence to the Constitution, the true blueprint for freedom is not to be found there. If the Constitution truly had the built in protections to prevent opportunistic politicians from abusing it, we would not be in the mess we are today. There is a very good reason the Patriot who said, give me liberty or give me death refused to sign that document. The Constitution itself was created when members of the ruling elite found that the Articles of Confederation did not give them the power of coercion needed to dictate their wishes to the masses. An
Ounce of Prevention Recently I wrote about "Warning Signs", some of those indicators that our liberty is under serious and immiment threat. Almost all of the e-mail I received in response to that column agreed, and lamented that things are the way they are. But one of those e-mails was written by a man who, while he also agreed the warning signs were definitely of the red-flag variety, challenged me by adding, "So what can we do about it?" Good question. And certainly one that deserves an answer. The answer, of course, is at least as complex as the problem: a government out of control on virtually every level, and freedom under seige at almost every turn. But, simplistically speaking, there are still things that can be done even by those who (for reasons I'm sure I don't understand) don't want to do all that much. Of course, before you do anything else, you need to commit to working for those things that are Constitutional, and against those things that are not. Next, and in escalating order of commitment, I'd suggest that the following are among things we can do to regain at least some of what we're losing: (Read the rest here)

Hunter! I have confirmed with the legal team that the next court date -February 2, 2004- is open to the public. So spread the word throughout the land. I'll be wearing a suit and tie, and if I can remember how will even comb my hair. So the spectator value will be pretty high even ignoring the legal niceties. The appearance
is at Ashland County Common Pleas court, which I believe is at 142 W 2nd
Street, Ashland Ohio. The proceedings start at 11:30 AM. I shall leave
it to the local activists to arrange the details of where and when they
will gather. I will be arriving with the lawyers, and probably tied up
with them for at least a little while before that to boot. I
suspect I will be told it would be inadvisable to say anything; you know
the drill. I would appreciate as big a show of support as we can manage,
but remember that we MUST appear polite, respectable, and businesslike. Feel free to forward this notice far and wide, and should the local activists have questions that they can't get answered on the LRT web page, feel free to email me at this address. Molon Labe! Jeffrey
