The Peasant Gene
By Lee Robinson ©2004

Every week it seems that geneticists uncover another gene that is linked to human behavior. There are obesity genes, alcoholic genes, angry genes and depression genes. Every human characteristic seems to have a genetic foundation. Throughout our long evolution our genetic code has been shaping our lives while simultaneously being shaped itself by the ramifications of those same lives; the same way people shape societies while societies shape people. Therefore I think it would be a safe bet that one of these days soon scientists will uncover what I have dubbed The Peasant Gene.

Throughout history human societies have mostly comprised a large mass of semi-slaves, a.k.a. peasants, dominated and exploited by any number of kings, queens, warlords, landlords, dictators, tyrants, Republicans, Democrats and of course the random lunatic. Countless generations of constant subordination would inevitably create within it’s victims a genetic proclivity to accept and even embrace the clutches of a ruler since to do otherwise had historically resulted in a low survival rate. After centuries of the master providing the entire framework of a person’s life many of them lost all capacity for self-determination. (Read the rest here)

Propaganda And Secrets
By Ed Henry

Stop calling it a war. It was not a war. It was an invasion. The most powerful technically advanced military in the world invaded a hapless and defenseless pipsqueak nation that had been under embargo and intermittently bombed for twelve years. An embargo that caused the deaths of a half million children, kept the Iraqis from getting the parts to repair their limited air force, and even had them dismantling their short range defensive missiles just weeks before the invasion. We completely overwhelmed Iraq in jig time. That's not a war. It's a rogue bully superpower taking what it wants.

In light of the invasion of Iraq it seems somewhat consistent that President Bush would allow the invasion of America by his friends from Mexico. While this may be another Tammany Hall trick similar to the way democrats sought immigrant votes in 1997, it certainly runs against the counter terrorism efforts we should have been enacting at our borders long ago. There's a lot more than just votes at stake here. (Read the rest here)

The Case for Impeachment
By Ted Lang © 2004

The President, Vice President, and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

-United States Constitution, Article II, Section 4

It seems that everyone who reads that phrase, “high crimes and misdemeanors,” must know what it means, whether one experiences that expression for the first time, or whether it serves as a tired and worn out qualifier justifying the impeachment of a sitting president. And it is doubtful that the average American even knows what impeachment means – they assume it means removal from office. But look again at the precise wording offered in Article II of our Constitution; it clearly indicates that removal from office can occur only after both impeachment and conviction.
