Liberty: The Gold That Does Not Glitter

I am one of those people who has reread "The Lord of the Rings" dozens of times. The release of the movie version was something I had dreamed about since I was around 10. I memorized Aragorn's "signature" poem quoted above nearly 30 years ago. Just a few years ago, it occurred to me that poem could easily have been written to describe what is happening to freedom in America today, and offers a prophetic view of how we might reclaim our birthright of liberty. Do It Your Way

I have always loved to travel. My parents often told me about my great enjoyment of a trip to the upper Midwest taken when I was just three years old -- I don't know whether I've reconstructed things from their recollections, or if they're genuine, but I've a few wisps of remembrance of immense bridges and lots of water from the trip through Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. By the time I was old enough to consider it, I was yearning to get out of small-town Ohio and see some of the world. It took decades to accomplish that, but I have, yet wanderlust still pounds in my blood. (Read the rest here)

Choosing Peace Over Liberty

Since my awakening to the forces and depredations of the State some 5 years ago, I have often wondered why so many people, even when faced with the terrible, deceptive forces of government, choose to continually apologize for it. History is resplendent with a plethora of examples to the answer to this question, if one will only listen.

The words of the great Sioux war chief, Sitting Bull, echo in my mind: “If the great spirit would have wanted me to be a white man, he would have made it so. Eagles do not gather with the crows.” (Read the rest here)
