Hunter: Dear News Journal and Mr. Kent: Thank you for your accurate article on Jeff (Hunter) Jordan It is refreshing to see honest reporting and stories that do not assume guilt or promote the "states" agenda. I find it appalling that Ohio troopers felt justified in jailing a man, seizing his possessions, infringing on his privacy, and attempting to damaging his excellent reputation - because he was in possession of a gun. I find it very disappointing that a simple speeding violation could escalate to a federal case for simply exercising one's constitutional right. Aren't Ohio State Patrolmen sworn to "uphold" the constitution? (Read the rest here)
Assuming
Positions Allowing the state mechanisms of control over reproductive capacities may appear a good idea to pro-life people now, but doing so will serve the purposes of the state, and whoever controls the bulldozer of state policy. Regimes change. Abortion is a dreadful subject to tackle, and I tackle it reluctantly because I don't sense an honorable alternative. We were all babies once: does God, if He exists, know what He's allowing? I'm making observations, not assuming a position - or presenting an argument, not issuing judgment. I'll play lawyer, readers can play jury: whom shall we call on to play the part of judge? . (Read the rest here)
Trolling
for Government Programs One of the things that makes the Internet both helpful and enjoyable is the ability to "talk" with those with whom you've got something in common. Like many people, I'm a member of several e-mail groups for just that reason. But, just as we've all had to learn to deal with "spam" if we want the convenience of e-mail, both e-mail and news groups have had to learn to deal with "trolls" (for those of you who don't know, "spam" is junk e-mail, and "trolls" are those in groups who exist almost solely to say things the majority of the group will find highly objectionable and, if the troll is really lucky, even incendiary). Of course, there are those rare and wonderful occasions when a piece of spam you receive in your in box proves to be an advertisement for a smokin' deal on exactly the thing you've been needing or wanting. In much the same way, there's the occasional instance where a troll has a valid point. Even scarcer are those times the troll has a valid point that actually tempts you to backtrack from your own position, even one which you know is right. Recently, I've been exposed to that very situation. Though I'll never admit it to the e-mail group, I thought I'd share my feelings - in confidence, mind you! - here. (Read the rest here) Up
$86 Billion In ONE DAY! The national debt went up $86 billion in one day, from December 30, 2003 to December 31, 2003. Don't tell me that Secretary of the Treasury John Snow isnt another tricky dick perhaps even more so than his predecessor. Throughout the month of December the federal government was doing pretty good, not borrowing much, just enough to replace maturing securities, and sometimes even not replacing all of them in order to reduce the debt a little. Then on the very last day of the month the national debt jumps from $6.915 trillion that it held on December 30th to $7.001 trillion on the 31st, an increase of $86 billion. Overall, the debt went up $76 billion for the month. (Read the rest here)
