I've spent quite a bit of time looking at the various patriot and freedom archives and I've noticed a common theme. There are many references to different ways of gaining sovereignty, state Vs federal citizenship, and common law versus the uniform commercial code (UCC).

With very few exceptions, these documents and webpages offer some clear plan of action, ranging from the very simple to the obscenely complex. Do this and file these papers and then do that, and sign your signature with this before it and this after it, and you'll be granted an immediate "get out of slavery card", and thereby shoot the beast with a magic bullet.

Regardless of what you've heard or read anywhere, beware. There is no "magic bullet", although I certainly wish there was. So, even though there are a few who profess to be "free of the system", I'd venture to say that their freedom is only in their mind and that they'll be fighting with those who profess to rule 'till the end of their days.

The fact is that "government" is an illusion and nothing more than (as a friend would put it) a "STRAWMAN" label given to the largest organized crime syndicate in existence, today and always. This gang runs a protection racket, and in exchange for compliance and a percentage of everything you earn, they will "protect" you - from themselves! If you do not pay, they will cease to "protect"you and will then attack you. Of course, they must "make an example of you" so others will not defy them.

This gang also takes some percentage of their total plunder and allocates it to some of the unfortunates in modern society so they will become dependent and "grateful" to the gang. As a historical note both Al Capone and John Dillanger also used a portion of their profits for public relations in the same manner and for the same reasons.

I will admit that some have won small skirmishes with this gang, and a few have embarrassed the court system by exposing this protection racket to the point that they were released quietly. But will they ever have true peace in their lives after having crossed these criminals? Or will their entire lives be one small skirmish after another, until they make one fatal mistake and are ultimately jailed, killed, or at the very least impoverished beyond all hope of recovery? It's hard to see how these things could be the "magic bullet" some claim for them.

Will your claim as a "sovereign citizen" of the state of (insert your state here), operating under the common law rather than the merchant law, admiralty or the British accreditation regent, even be recognized? Even those with a great deal of money can't buy the publicity it would take to expose "the system". The popular media is squarely in the gang's pocket, so no amount of money would be enough.

There are many who want freedom and many who would do something if they knew what to do and thought that it would be successful. So, first we must make a conscious decision to do what is necessary to become free. We must decide that all actions and works must focus upon and work towards that goal. After this decision has been well thought out, then one must initiate some sort of action. That very first bit of action starts us on the path towards freedom and liberty, thus making the second and all subsequent steps even easier.

Unfortunately, this first step is the most difficult step and for many, if not most, the ultimate roadblock to their quest for freedom and liberty.

In this grand comedy called life, each of us must find and travel our own path, as there is no textbook nor any maps for life, yet among the freedom community there is a common goal. Perhaps it's time to start that journey.

Ask yourself today: "Is today the day I decide I'm going to become a free person?" Have you committed yourself to being or becoming a free person? Did you decide that you are done just complaining about it and are ready do do something concrete about it?

If so, take a step. Decide that you are not going to ask "the gang" for protection or security anymore.

To the same goal via different roads

The basic tenet of anarchism is that hierarchical authority -- be it state, church, patriarchy or economic elite -- is not only unnecessary, but is inherently detrimental to the maximization of human potential. Anarchists generally believe that human beings are capable of managing their own affairs on the basis of creativity, cooperation, and mutual respect. It is believed that power is inherently corrupting, and that authorities are inevitably more concerned with self-perpetuation and increasing their own power than they are with doing what is best for their constituents.
